CLUB TEAMS

Our teams are for intermediate to advanced level players. Each team is led by experienced and knowledgable local coaches and are dedicated to the development of the individual players, not winning championships. We stress hard work and dedication over talent, and teamwork over individual play. Our focus is to help each of our players prepare for and advance to the next level of their basketball careers. Whether the player’s goal is to make the middle school, JV, or varsity team, our aim is to teach the fundamentals, team play, and basketball IQ necessary at the next level and to integrate these element into how our players and teams play the game.

For each team, we hold tryouts, form the team(s), and then decide at what level each team will compete, whether it’s YBOA, USBA, and/or AAU (div. I, II, or III). Check out our coaches, codes of conduct, and FAQs below and/or our teams from the drop-down menu above.

  • What separates Pro Skills teams from other basketball clubs?

What separates us is our dedication to the individual improvement of our players. Of course we play every game to win, but having the most talented teams and/or winning championships are not our goals. Our goal is solely to make every child a more skilled and smarter basketball player than when he joined the team. Also, we do not hire fathers as coaches. We hand select knowledgable and experienced local coaches who have no biases towards one player or another. Along with these head coaches, Logan and/or Brendan attend team practices to add their playing/coaching knowledge and experience to the pot.

  • How much does it cost to play on a team?

The club fee varies between $400-500 depending on a number of different factors from length of season to gym costs. Players will also be responsible for their share of tournament team entry fees, which are typically $20-30/player/tournament.

  • What does the club fee cover?

The club fee covers gym time for practice, coaches fees, uniforms/gear, insurance, any memberships, overhead, and last but not least, a Pro Skills Basketball player membership.

  • What do I get with a Pro Skills Basketball player membership?

This membership gives each player a discount of 20% off official Pro Skills Basketball events, including Private Training, Skill Academies, Clinics, and Camps!

  • What kind of tournaments will you play in? YBOA, USBA, AAU Division I, II, or III?

After teams are formed, we will judge the level of competition that we feel suits each team. All types of tournaments will be considered, but we will do what’s best for the players and team in order to get the best experience possible. We may move a team up or down during the season depending on its level of success.

  • What does YBOA, USBA, and AAU stand for?

YBOA stands for Youth Basketball Organization of America. USBA stands for United States Basketball Association. AAU stands for Amateur Athletic Union.

  • Do I need memberships to these organizations?

Yes, but your team will notify you of this if necessary and also purchase the membership for you.

  • How many players are on a team?

There will be 12-13 total players on a team, 10 game players and 2-3 practice players.

  • What’s a ‘practice player’?

They are players that were right on the edge of making the team and being cut. Instead of being cut, practice players are afforded all of the benefits of being on the team, except for playing in games. This is a great opportunity for players who are “almost there” to get work with and against players deemed to be better. Practice players will only play in games in the event that one of the 10 game players cannot play, which is highly likely due to injuries, illness, time conflicts, vacation, etc.

  • Do players get equal playing time?

No. Although every player will get game minutes, playing time is earned based on each player’s performance in practice and games.

  • Does everyone who tries out make the team?

Unfortunately, not everyone will make a team. Players are selected by ability and attitude. We offer player development programs for those who do not make a team.

  • Are there A and B teams?

If enough players try out to make a second competitive team then another team may be formed. These teams may be divided equally, or made into a an ‘A’ and a ‘B’ team depending on the players and situation.

  • Who coaches the teams?

Teams are coached by college, HS and other qualified coaches from around the area.

  • When are practices?

Practices will be held two days per week for a season, typically either Mondays/Wednesdays or Tuesdays/Thursdays.

  • Where will practices and games be?

Practices are held at local gyms in the north Charlotte/Lake Norman area, which include schools in Huntersville, Cornelius, Davidson, and Mooresville.

  • When are the tournaments?

Tournaments are held on Friday evenings (sometimes), Saturdays, and Sundays. Typically, each tournament has a 3 game minimum guarunteed. Tournament dates are not determined until after teams are selected.

  • Where are the tournaments?

Tournaments are located at various schools and facilities in Charlotte and the surrounding areas.

  • What is the commitment level?

We are looking for committed players but we understand how busy kids are these days so we are flexible when conflicts come up. This is why we have 2-3 practice players per team!

  • Can my child play another sport at the same time?

Yes. We have many players who play multiple sports. Some conflicts may occur, but players should be able to attend the majority of the practices and games, unless given special permission.
